Summary
The sparring mat remained the only place Brennan could convince Mira to join him. He’d tried the flight field, the dining hall, her room. Her response never wavered: she took to the skies; she switched tables; she slammed the door in his face. Only when he offered to let her have a few hits in on the mat had she acquiesced.

Violet Sorrengail grew up knowing the power of soulmates. Though her days were dull with monotone shades of black and white and grey, she knew color blossomed between the touch of her parents' love. Because of the tender touches between her mother and father — because, in part, to her and her siblings' existence — her mother could easily distinguish between the colors of dragons, not relying on the shape of their tails and squinting at the shade of grey.
