Summary
Euijoo never wanted to be a Jaeger pilot. As a technician, he only ever planned to help build the machines, never fight inside of one. In the war against the Kaiju, it was the one way he knew how to be useful.
Nicholas had long since given up on becoming a Jaeger pilot. He’d only ever Drifted with one person, and that person was dead. If the world was ending anyway, he was fine to stand back and watch it collapse.
But plans change. And amidst an unexpected transfer to Tokyo, dwindling resources across the pacific rim, and a connection too strong to be ignored, the two of them together might be the very salvation the world needs.
And the solace they’ve both desperately been searching for.

“It’s a Sinners List, Yuma. You know how they work. We get to know what they look like; we get to know where they live. We don’t get to know what they did,” Nicholas drawled.
“Yeah, sure.” Yuma nodded impatiently. “Is it possible, though… that someone could’ve been put on one, I don’t know, by mistake?”
“Mistake?”
“The guy, Asakura, he just seems like… look I’ve been at this a long time, and he doesn’t seem like a typical Sinner. I don’t get the vibes.”
“What vibes?”
“The bad vibes. The vibes of a Sinner.”
“Newsflash, Yuma, this is Hell. It’s all bad vibes.” Nicholas pointed a shiny, sharpened fingernail down at him. “You, right now? You’re a bad vibe.”

“So is the attitude problem just a figure skater thing, then?”
Taki stiffens, his blades wobbling as he stops to look over his shoulder. “Excuse me?”
Maki’s holding his stare. He’s got long lashes, and Taki’s starting to think good things really do happen to jerk people. “Would it kill you to lighten up? We don’t wanna be here either.”
-
Out of all the challenges he faces as figure skater, Taki would humbly put being forced to share a rink with the local hockey club at the very top of the list. Particularly the team’s new defender, a rough and tumble boy with distracting dimples and a smart mouth.
Who also manages to bowl Taki over on the very first day.
(or: taki is a figure skater with something to prove to himself. maki is a hockey player with something to prove to everyone else. they collide. literally.)

“I think the kids might be a little… you know… scared of him.”
Fuma raised an eyebrow. “Which ones?”
Euijoo froze. “...I’m sorry?”
“Which kids do you think are scared of Nicholas? Did any of them mention something to you?”
“It’s not that they mentioned anything per se.”
“Are any of them acting differently around him?”
“Well… no.”
Fuma blinked a few times, waiting for Euijoo to elaborate or offer up some sort of actual explanation then. He didn’t – just stood there with his arms crossed too tightly across his chest to be casual, one of his hike-worn sneakers thumping an offbeat rhythm against the wooden floor.
Fuma’s eyebrows pulled together slowly. “Then I don’t follow.”
“Fine, it’s me, okay? He scares me.”

“I’d date you.”
Oh. Whoops. He hadn’t meant to say that. He’d been speaking just as himself – as Maki. The very male member of &Team.
The only way they can answer these types of questions is in hypotheticals.
-
inspired by maki's answer to the question, "If you were a girl, which member would you want to be your boyfriend?"
maki -> taki ("Because he's fun! I think he'll keep making me smile!")

”Do you want to have a drink with me?”
There are a million reasons why Euijoo should say no. He hasn’t seen Nicholas in eight years. Who knows how much they both have changed? Euijoo certainly isn’t the same eighteen-year-old who left Japan, and he doesn’t know who Nicholas is anymore. This could end so poorly. It’s only in recent years that he has managed to lacquer his broken edges back together again, and yet here he is, going willingly into the waiting arms of the person who shattered him.
“Sure. One drink,” he agrees.
euijoo and nicholas broke up eight years ago. on new year’s eve in their hometown, they reconnect.

Summary
Is this what people mean by having a crush? Does it always feel this invasive? This sneaky? This ratty? Nicholas feels like vermin sometimes—something that isn’t supposed to be here, hiding in plain sight so no one uncovers its presence and intentions.
He might be overreacting, though.

Summary
"Hypothetically,” Nicholas asked, pushing around the eggs on his plate instead of taking a bite, “do you still need to use protection if the person you’re looking to hook up with is technically dead?”
A pause followed. Long and pregnant with all the questions Nicholas desperately hoped they wouldn’t ask.
Maki was the first to break. He groaned and shoved his toast aside. “Dude. While we’re eating?”
“I didn’t mean it like that,” Nicholas said defensively, his face burning. “It came out wrong.”
“Hard to imagine a way it could come out right, Nico,” Maki said, clapping Nicholas on the back with too much enthusiasm. He seemed to be thoroughly enjoying this—either because he’d guessed what Nicholas really meant, or because he’d already breezed past horror and landed comfortably in acceptance of the fact that his friend might be a necrophile. Nicholas didn’t know. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
Nicholas and Euijoo have an arrangement. You need blood, I need to bleed. No more and no less. Except... what happens if Nicholas starts wanting more? What if, lately, it’s all he can think about?

Summary
Euijoo never meant to end up hating Wang Nicholas — but from the moment they met, they couldn’t stop clashing. Being teammates means they can’t avoid each other… and maybe, deep down, they don’t really want to.
