Summary
999 AD. Ten years have passed since Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry cast its first spells, and what began as Helga Hunlafsdottir’s mad fancy has become a respected and established pillar of the wizarding community, a beacon of stability in an ever more unstable Saxon England. There are new students, new teachers, new classes, and even a new village being built across the loch. But there are also troubled times ahead, as the Saxon king Æthelræd falls more and more under the influence of unscrupulous advisors – and in the shadowy corners of the wizarding quarter of Lundenburh, a darkness is rising that will soon march northward and threaten not only Hogwarts, but the whole of England.

Summary
989 AD. Saxon King Æthelræd is unsteady on his throne, faced with the increasing threat of Danish invasion into England. Villages are ravaged by both armies. In the Danelaw region of England, a young Norse healer named Helga cares for children orphaned by war; and when one begins to show signs of magical abilities, Helga – herself one of the most gifted witches in the Danelaw – realizes that if enough magical children are left with no parents to teach them, then the use of magic might die out in England forever. Helga thus resolves to collect the orphaned witches and wizards of war-torn England and take them somewhere to be educated in safety and secrecy. To accomplish this, she seeks out the aid of Goderic, a Saxon wizard in the king’s household, to bridge the cultural gap. They enlist the Welsh druidess Rhonwen, who uses her scrying glass to locate all of the magical children on the island. And together the three trek north to the Highlands, where they approach the reclusive Basque wizard Salazar with a proposition – to turn the ruined Roman fort on his land into the center of England’s magical education.

A Nolanverse retelling of the comic/Animated Series Episode "Mad Love," in which Dr. Harleen Quinzel slides down the slippery slope of counter-transference and becomes Harley Quinn.
(This fic is a product of literal years of work, and it shows - because each chapter is better written than the one before it. I was basically a fetus when I wrote the beginning of this story, so the first two chapters are NOT on par with the rest, and chapter 3 is iffy. I'm currently working on notes and plans for revamping the first few chapters, so you'll see changes at some point, but until then: Please read past the first couple chapters - you won't be sorry.)
