She was forever second to everyone. Lost in the shadow of her brother, forgotten more times than not. Ryder felt more like a pretty doll placed on a shelf, only to be used when the time was right. It’s why she’s not exactly surprised that when she falls head over heels for Jaal, he’s looking back at Peebee. That is what was happening. But now she’s not sure what to do when the angara male suddenly seems to set his focus on her shelf. She was just a doll, with a pretty painted smile and hollow inside. Like everyone else he would admire her for her use and put her back when he’s done. Right?

Lucy enjoyed books— any she could get her hands on. She appreciated hard work, took pleasure in creating and her parents told her to build a career off something that lasts… Well bridges and water towers mostly did, right?
So, that’s exactly what she did. She helped build back Sandrock. Hero? Maybe. Courageous? Sure. Fulfilled? Possibly… but that’s what she should feel, right?That comes into question after something simple. Andy mentioned something offhanded one day that led down a road of inconceivably dumb luck and perhaps building something more. Life isn’t just about building up a town; sometimes, in a rare few, the town builds up something more in a person. Lucy experienced such growing pains after the routine returned to Sandrock.
This takes place in contrast to Cornered Beasts. It is another take on how a rough-and-tumble yakboy finds himself running into a thick-as-magnesium steelhead.
