"This is it, huh?" Antoine simply said, a mix of sadness and acceptance in his voice.
Alia nodded grimly and sighed as the man placed a palm on his chest, drawing a shaky, heavy breath. He must be in pain, she knew he was. It hurt her to know that whatever healing the tattoos and her magic provided could not stop the poison that spread through his veins, pushing him to madness, but never quite succeeding. But Antoine was strong, he really was. He lowered his hand, a sad smile forming on his lips. They stood for a long moment, looking at each other, sharing grief and fear for the last time, before they would have to bear them alone. It felt unfair to go first, but Alia knew better than to get upset with life's harsh ways. Life was loss. And their loss will save the world.

The night before the expedition to hide the Black Stone, Alia and Antoine find themselves unable to fall asleep. The two share their last calm moments by grappling with their sorrow, having heart-to-hearts under the stars, and stuffing themselves with old sweets in the kitchen cellar.

He has a lot of important duties as a prince, some of which become compromised thanks to his brother, John's, reckless rebellion. As frustrated as John's antics are, they are familiar. The stranger that shows up as a representative during a political convention is not, and frankly Aurelius does not care that he's such a mystery, all that matters is that John stays away from one Arthur Lester.

Summary

Summary
After gaining the Blackstone at last, Kayne finds his way to the Waylay, determined to find out for certain who's been aiding Arthur and John before he sets out to make his final wager. The Manager, however, is not entirely defenseless. Kayne finds himself confronted with a place that clearly knows him far too well, and that is far too skilled at turning him against himself in a very literal sense.
Featuring: blood, extremely weird times with mirrors, blood, questions about free will and the nature of self, violence, blood, and the infinite chorus of voices in Kayne's head. Also: quite a bit of blood.
