Summary
“Um,” Shane sighs. “It’s a curse, I guess.”
Icy dread and hot anger coalesce into a hard ball in Ilya’s chest. “What curse?”
Shane tosses his head, runs a hand through his hair. He looks out the window, because whatever is going on with him is clearly too agonizing to experience while looking directly at Ilya’s face. He crosses his arms over his chest, lurches a single step towards Ilya like he’s attached to a string pulled taut.
“Remember rookie season,” Shane says, apropos of nothing.
Ilya cuts a sharp, humorless grin. “Most of it.”
“They put you on Curse Protocol. You said it was a hazing thing. And I told you, do you remember, that I’d heard of guys—”
“Getting their dicks cursed off,” Ilya says.
“Yeah,” Shane says, eyes refusing to settle. He looks fucking hunted, like he expects to be brutally struck down in the very near future. “Well.”Shane Hollander is not the first hockey player to be the victim of a nasty playoff curse, but this one is a little different. Ilya rises to the occasion in a couple of ways.

Summary
Shane breathes in deep, a contented little sigh, and then pauses for another long time. Just slightly tensed, like he’s preparing himself for something, but Ilya doesn’t really have the chance to worry before he says, “I had…a good time tonight.”
“Mm, was good night,” Ilya murmurs. Kisses hair, kisses eyebrow. “Nice dinner, nice weather.”
“Yeah, it was nice,” Shane murmurs. He sighs, clears his throat. “Thank you for such a nice first date.”
Ilya mouths first date to himself, mind running to figure out what that could mean in this context.
Then Shane shifts and says, “I wasn’t sure what to expect when you asked me out.”
Ah.Shane decides to play a game. Ilya is exactly where he wants to be.

Summary
When Shane pulls away, he swallows audibly and the breath catches in his throat when he says, “There’s something you should know, too. Um, before.”
Ilya traces a thumb over his lips, pouts his own to show he’s listening. “Hm?”
“I’m a man,” Shane says, carefully.
Ilya scoffs. “Obviously. I’m not—”
“No, no, I mean—I’m a man. You need to remember that. Because—”
“Oh,” Ilya murmurs. He brings his other hand up, settles it in the curve of Shane’s neck. “I understand."A hockey player and the most beautiful man he's ever seen walk into a bar.

Summary
Rozanov says, “I am new Captain. Is, um…in English, I think you say—”
“Hazing,” Shane mutters. “They’re hazing you?”
“Yes.” Rozanov pulls back. Shrugs his shoulders again. “Go back in your room, Shane Hollander.”
“And if I do,” Shane mutters, sliding his eyes sideways again. Siderov and Vasiliev look proud of themselves, basking in a kind of butter-wouldn’t-melt ease that only bullies ever truly know. Somewhere, their mothers are calling them princes. “Will that be, like, it? Or will they do something else?”
“Ah.” Rozanov rubs the side of his nose, sniffs. “Something else, probably. Or they will tell whole team you turned me down. No worries. Pretty omega turns me down, not end of the world. Guys on team will laugh. Also not end of the world.”
“That’s not…” Shane screws up his mouth, looks down at his shoes. He’s still massively keyed up, still just a little hard, and Rozanov is still very handsome. “That’s not…what’s happening.”Regina, Saskatchewan, 2008. Shane Hollander is newly an omega and nobody is happy about it. Ilya Rozanov makes it interesting.

Summary
"Oh my God, what?" Shane demands, nervous now.
Ilya swears in Russian again. "Is, um. The condom."
Fuck. "What about the condom?"
"On porvalysa," he says, like he can't fucking bring himself to say it in a language that Shane can understand. Then he finally looks at Shane, mouth covered like he's a cowering dog afraid to show Shane his teeth. "It broke."Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are twenty, on top of the world, and a little irresponsible about it. This is the crash.

Summary
He crowds Shane into the hood of the car, hands up under his shirt and jacket again. October is getting cold; nights are getting colder. The places where Ilya is touching him are the only parts of Shane’s body that are warm right now. Maybe that’s why he wraps his arms around Ilya’s neck and clings to him, though he doesn’t necessarily surprise himself with it. They don’t even kiss for a moment. Ilya busies himself breathing into the crook of Shane’s neck, trying to regain control. Shane opens his eyes and gazes over Ilya’s shoulder at the dark field and realizes that an utterly foreign feeling has risen up in him. It’s Ilya’s broad shoulders and beautiful hair between Shane and the world and he feels—small. Protected.
“Oh my God,” Shane whispers, completely ashamed of the feeling and hungry for it. It curls warm in his stomach. His toes arch inside his shoes. Something about being so close to this man, something about Ilya putting himself between Shane and—the world. Whatever lurks in the deep night. It’s a feeling like a ghost, something that Shane isn’t allowed to look directly at except for moments like these. Quiet and dark.Shane, Ilya, Vermont. Meeting in the middle.

Summary
"Fucking moron." Cliff mutters. "Who doesn't like eating pussy? Well. I mean." He darts a glance out of the corner of his eye.
Rozanov chuckles into the mouth of his beer. "Marley, you know how much pussy I've eaten?"
"I just meant--I wasn't trying to be insensitive. I know Hollander's gay."
"Mm. True, Shane would cry." He tilts his beer into his mouth then, so Cliff almost doesn't hear him say, "Different for him with cock, though."
Cliff laughs. "You're a fuckin' dog, Rozy."
"Whaaat? I'm just saying, my husband? Fucking lo-o-ves to suck cock. Loves it."Cliff is just trying to be a good friend. He's not realizing anything about himself at all.

Summary
When he presses the button on the doorbell, he hears the digitally-produced ding-dong echo from inside. There is a tiny box halfway up the adjacent wall that immediately beeps and emits Shane’s voice.
“Hey, you can just leave it on the step, thanks.”
Ilya presses his nose into the digital doorbell, which he knows to also contain a camera, and says, “Shane.”
A pause.
“What the fuck.”
A brief cacophony of noise that Ilya can hear even from outside the house. The multiple successive thumps of something falling, Shane swearing loudly and the sound of what can only be a hockey game being paused on the television.
He opens the door to reveal that he is nap-rumpled, wearing two pairs of socks and carrying a child in his arms. The only really surprising part is that the socks don’t match, though the child is interesting.Ilya takes an impromptu trip to Montreal. There are unforeseen consequences.

Summary
“I’m not, strictly speaking, looking to be your wife.”
Emmrich again faltered, hands folding in front of himself. He dithered. He searched for words. Well-spoken since childhood, he was quite unused to feeling so wrong-footed. He suspected it was something he would become well acquainted with in the immediate future.
“What,” he said eventually, “are you…looking for?”
“A friend,” Sigrid replied. Again in that simple, earnest and succinct way. “I’d like to be your friend, Emmrich.”
Something in Emmrich’s chest, utterly despite himself, swelled.
“Yes,” he murmured. “I would…like that very much, Sigrid.”
Sigrid smiled and lifted her satchel over her head. “Great. Then let’s get married.”Some years ago, Emmrich Volkarin met his wife, married her, and fell in love with her. In that order.
In 9:50 Dragon, Varric Tethras finds himself in a backwater of Nevarra, where he enlists the help of a secretive necromancer on a rainy night. These two events are not unrelated.
Not even the dead keep their secrets forever. -

“You wore them in public?” Emmrich mumbled.
“Ten years ago, yeah.”
“Were they always so…” Emmrich scratched the back of his neck, visibly searching for a word in that big, gorgeous brain of his. He eventually settled on, “Revealing?”
Rook looked down at herself, realizing for the first time what might have sent Emmrich into his current spiral.
“Well,” Rook said, “they’re not really flattering with the whole full bush look—”
“Beg to differ,” Emmrich said, strained. The air conditioner is broken. Rook finds a solution. Emmrich finds the Maker. Or something like that.

Summary
“I would love to,” he replies, all gallantry, and this is how he keeps his reputation intact. Nothing about length or lack thereof, awkward realizations or—Maker forbid—crying of any sort. When she tires of him and goes elsewhere, she’ll at least have this story to tell. Emmrich Volkarin is maudlin and a dork, she might say, but he ate me out like my pussy was a peach. She will find pleasure’s peak, multiple times if he has anything to say about it, before she even remembers the possibility that he has a cock. One that she might, perhaps, deign to touch.
Emmrich Volkarin versus the mortifying ordeal of being known.

Summary
In Treviso, the coffee is strong, the stars are bright, and ziplines dot the rooftops. While familiar enough with the mechanism itself, Emmrich is less familiar, if at all, with the technique of using one. Typically, when he accompanies Rook to Treviso, they use the streets.
His companions do not hesitate; Lucanis expertly hops onto the line bare seconds after reaching it, and Emmrich watches him zip across. He lands catlike (Crowlike, perhaps?) on his feet, and then he’s standing at the edge of the adjacent rooftop tapping his foot. Rook throws her hands over her head, tiptoeing up to grab the handlebar as it flies. Emmrich watches her teeter on the edge with something like awe, and something else like dread.
“I’ll catch you,” Rook tells him with a wink, swinging herself to gain momentum. “Just don’t look down.”Rook, Emmrich has noticed, has trouble keeping her hands to herself--and he certainly has not asked her to. It all comes to a head on a Treviso rooftop, where their burgeoning relationship finds a new foothold under Antivan stars.

“Rook,” he says, and it’s a statement. He’s so intuitive that way. Yes, she is Rook. And that’s who she chooses to be every day when she wakes up in the morning. If she tires of it, she’ll tell him and they’ll go from there. They’ve probably had this conversation before, some early sunrise morning or late humid evening.
Then, he says, “I…am curious, darling.”
“I’m shocked,” she teases, and he tuts.
“Curious about the name,” Emmrich sighs. "Ingellvar."What's in a name.

“I mean, people know lullabies, I suppose. But that one…it’s not quite Mary Had a Little Nug, is it? It’s…a Nevarran song. For Nevarran babies.”
“Which mine would have been,” Emmrich whispered. “Had I had them.”Emmrich shares secrets; Rook indulges a fantasy.

Summary
“Captain,” said the ensign manning the communications console. “We’re being hailed.”
Ed’s eyes boggled. Izzy couldn’t fault him for the disbelief in his voice as he said, “By fucking who?”
The ensign tremulously responded, “The Starship Revenge, sir.”
Ed’s spine went from a relaxed, exhausted parabola to a straight line so quickly that it had to have hurt. He snapped, “Open a frequency.”
The ensign did so immediately. As soon as he did, the room was filled with static, the unmistakable sound of phaser fire, and a terrified voice shrieking.
“Help! Oh God, please help us!”The United Starship Queen Anne receives a distress signal from within the No Man’s Land of the Romulan Neutral Zone--a starship stranded under mysterious circumstances without the capacity for warp travel. Captain Edward Teach, disenchanted with life in space and Starfleet, mounts an unsanctioned rescue mission. Quickly, it comes to light that there's more than meets the eye when it comes to the Revenge and her crew. Secrets will be revealed, long-overdue conversations will be had, and Stede Bonnet might show the old dogs of the Queen Anne’s command team some new tricks.

Summary
Izzy took another, larger gulp of wine, and let it set into his stomach before he ventured, “Am I…being seduced?”
“Would you like to be?”
“He’s…” Izzy searched for a satisfactory way to define the unit of Edward-and-Stede that had formed in the whirlwind months since the once-and-for-all banishment of the Kraken. Finding all options deeply lacking, Izzy settled on, “Yours.”
Edward showed his teeth, an easy and sly expression, and leaned very far forward to whisper, “And you’re mine.”
“Still?”
“Mm.” Edward pulled away. His eyes, some of that deep sadness creeping into them again, swept briefly down to the horsey-leg. “If you still want.”Izzy lets himself succumb to the wiles of Stede Bonnet, and in the process receives a lesson in the art of loving Edward Teach.

“Izzy,” said Alma again, shifting in an utterly heart-stopping fashion on the tottering stool until she was seated, mercifully in the appropriate fashion. “Are you coming with us to see the eclipse?”
Izzy looked up, eyebrows raised. “Oh, was that today? Must not have put it on my calendar. Why, is it important?”
Alma favored him with a roll of the eyes. They were undeniably Stede's eyes. An angel or demon somewhere created Stede Bonnet and crafted him to be just beautiful enough to be a threat, just smart enough to be dangerous, and just virile enough to have two children with his eyes, nose and laugh. Sometimes Izzy was reminded of these things and knew that wherever that celestial being was, it’d spent the last two years laughing at the plight of one Israel Hands. The sun disappears from the sky, and Izzy Hands bears witness--but that's not the whole story, is it?

Summary
Stede Bonnet, a middle aged man who has decided to live full time in a van but whom is definitely not having a midlife crisis, is entrusted with the task of transporting the estranged brother of his friend Izzy Hands across an ocean in time for Christmas. All does not go to plan.
“How long have you been doing this for?” Ed asked, his gaze focused.
“Three years, give or take,” said Stede. “Four if you count from when I bought the van, but it took me a year or so to fix it up to the point that I could live in it full-time.”
“And you’ve always been by yourself?”
“Oh, yes. That seemed like the best idea at the time. Figured it was better for everybody that I get out of sight, at least for a little while. And I liked the idea of not having to ask anybody else’s opinion about where I went, what I did."
“Do you get tired of being alone?” Ed asked. His breath floated in a mist between them.
“Sometimes,” Stede admitted. “It can be lonely to be alone.”
