Jesper had long since felt like his life was missing something, but now he felt it more than ever. Indulging in gambling more frequently, drowning in cheap liquor, having one night stands with pretty guys and girls, and requesting very dangerous jobs for the Crows were all a means to an end. His fruitless endeavors to find that missing spark from his life were taking a serious toll that he himself failed to recognize.

Jesper Fahey has selective blindness but doesn't realize it. The condition is a cognitive limitation, not a vision problem, meaning that his brain filters out information as a defense. It began as a coping mechanism, but the things he couldn't see or hear were so minor that it never had an effect on his life. That was, until the day he encountered a person he couldn't see or hear - someone he couldn't perceive in the slightest.
