Summary
“I guess,” she’d whispered, drunkenly, on the first night in the new apartment, sprawled on the only piece of furniture available—a ratty couch—with Robyn and Dara, “I guess I was a little in love with her.”
Robyn scoffed. “Ack, so you were.”
“No, I’m serious, Robyn. I was in love with her. Still am, I think,” Saoirse said. Which—all right, maybe the alcohol was making her chatty, but she was also too fucking tired to care anymore. Too defeated. She’d lost her, anyway. May as well bring the girls into her wallowing, and save herself from solitary rotting. They were already joined at the hip, so one more secret couldn’t hurt.
Robyn lifted herself from the weirdly soft couch pillows, precariously balancing a beer in her hand, and looked Saoirse up and down, sceptical. On Saoirse’s other side, Dara sighed.
“I know you meant it, Saoirse,” Robyn said. “You’re possibly the last one on Earth to know, but I believe your heart was in it.”
