Which is not entirely true, perhaps, because as much as he has been unkind this is all Miles is letting himself have before he—goes. He can tell himself as much as he likes that it’s one last visit for Wright’s sake, but it’s inconsiderate if anything. Simply, however, if this is it then he can be a little selfish. For one last time. Maybe part of him wants to know that someone else will hurt.

See, here’s the thing. As much as Stanley hates the Narrator calling him a brat, it’s simply in his nature to act out. He means, really, how is he meant to follow every word he says without complaint? He seriously can’t be expected to just listen because he was told to.
