But even if conversations about goats manage to charm someone into getting engaged to Eskel, he’s afraid they’ll throw the ring back in his disfigured face as soon as they see him. It’s going to be a disaster.
Jaskier recruits Geralt for some reality TV show where he’ll be forced to flirt with strangers. On camera. Even if someone does fall in love with him despite the pained grunts that are his primary mode of communication, there’s still the problem of his hair, his skin, his eyes. It’s going to be a disaster.
But oh, what a beautiful disaster.

It had to be like this, Trevor knew that. Because Alucard had been hurt too much already, and they finally knew how much. Greta had helped, looking between the three of them one day and saying, “Tell them about the corpses on stakes, Alucard.” So Alucard had told Trevor and Sypha about Sumi and Taka, and how they'd used him, betrayed him. And Trevor got it, he really did. Better than most people would.
It had to be like this. There was nothing Trevor wouldn't do for them, in the end.
He'd bent over for much worse.

Trevor really should have seen it coming. He thought he and Sypha worked well together. Sypha was kind and smart, a natural leader. Trevor was a stupid asshole who mostly didn't care about people enough to lead them. They evened each other out. Brought balance to the world, and all that. They had worked well together, they had.
But now that they were reunited with Alucard, Trevor couldn't deny that the speaker magician and the dhampir had something special together. Something magical, terrible pun intended.
Trevor wasn't sure where that left him, but he suspected it was nowhere good.

Geralt, on the other hand, had many true loves, a great many for a man who was supposed to be more cut off from his emotions than even the average witcher. Perhaps that should have been Eskel’s clue that he didn’t understand this love thing at all.
In which Eskel learns what love looks like from Geralt, of all people. And Geralt learns that a damaged heart can still love and be loved in return.
