He found her. After years of being sent to this place, he managed to find her still here. She didn’t leave.
“Duke Alger.” Her voice still had that sweet, light tone that haunted him. Those lovely purple eyes had that bright gleam he always saw in the darkness when night fell. It almost felt like he was dreaming again, imagining her presence.
“Lady Charmaine,” he greets back, his voice grave. Matthias looked just as handsome as she last saw him. Those green eyes remained sharp, like a predatory fox from the shadows. It was amazing to see him like this, as if time had never changed at all.
But at the same time, Charmaine felt dread. How could he act like this when she ended up like this because of his actions?

Charmaine Llewyn finds herself within a royal scandal years after she became a lady-in-waiting-being forced to keep secrets from her Empress and Emperor. And because of this, she is watching the order of the royal family life fall apart with the appearance of Linnea-the Emperor's mistress.
Also, it doesn't help with the presence of the Duke Matthias Alger, a well-admired man and ladykiller with strange rumors surrounding him.
