Summary
There was more to the contract than a gnosis and test of Liyue. It seemed like a simple deal five hundred years ago: so long as Morax never had a soulmate, the Tsaritsa would never harm Liyue and she would not get his gnosis. But the moment he gained a soulmate, all that belonged to him was forfeit. He thought the deal left Liyue safe—he'd lived thousands of years without a soulmate. The Tsaritsa would be dead and gone by the time she'd have a chance to collect.
Five hundred years later, Childe appears in Liyue, Zhongli gains a soulmate mark, and everything falls apart.
(The obligatory soulmate AU, featuring a Zhongli with trauma, an oblivious Childe, and demon-worshipping cultists.)

Childe wasn't looking at Zhongli. He was staring into the glowing eyes of Rex Lapis, the one who lifted Liyue's mountains and carved its hills, the one who slaid thousands of gods and humans in his conquests of the Archon Wars, the one who was unforgiving, merciless, and most of all, spoke with enough rage to make the earth tremble beneath them.
"Childe of the Fatui," Rex Lapis rumbled, and Childe couldn't move, couldn't breathe as the Archon stared at him with his divine anger. He was weak, but there was something in his voice that reverberated throughout the room, layered with thundering vibrations and something that made Childe feel so small. "You will pay your dues."

Summary
The abyss was black, snow was white, and battle was red. Tartaglia, “Childe,” quite liked them that way, and he quite liked when they all mixed together. In fact, nothing was better. He took every step in life desperate to swallow the whole world in those colors.
Zhongli, on the other hand, preferred the calm, endless blue of the sea. It was unfortunate that taming the ocean was a futile endeavor. Even so, he always found that he did his best soul-searching while near the water.

Ozymandias is lying, of course; he knows very well just how good Gilgamesh can fuck him. It pisses him off. All Gilgamesh does is lay on the bed, the damn pillow prince (pillow king?), and yet he still manages to be good when he finally gets off his ass and in Ozymandias’s?
Still, Gilgamesh scoffs, playing into their game with enthusiasm. “Why do the work when someone else can do it?” His hands make quick work of his dress shirt, shrugging it off and then focusing on Ozymandias’s buttons. “Like I said, tonight is special. Tonight, I will show you how a king sits on his throne.”
