Hermione Granger wakes up in the hospital wing after the Battle of Hogwarts to learn that not only were they victorious and Fred Weasley lived, but she paid the ultimate price for it. A fate worse than death, is what people think in their heads, but don't dare voice out loud. Hermione doesn't blame them for thinking that. Most of these days she, too, wonders if dying on the battlefield would have been a better outcome than having merely a drop of her magic left in her.
Now she knows nothing but pain which doesn't make dealing with the grief of the post-war any easier. Aside from her friends and Fred—now at her beck and call on his accord—there's only one Healer in the wizarding world determined enough to not toss her case aside and revive the magic in her.
