Finn swallowed around the lump in his throat. “This isn’t my war.”
“Bullshit.” There was no heat to his reply, no change to the expression on his face as he spoke the truth. “Try again.”
Finn could feel his will crumbling; how could he even begin to understand how the man affected him? “You’ve seen what we can do. We can barely control it. The Resistance isn’t safe with us here, not with Kylo Ren and the First Order trying to track us down.” Finn resisted the temptation to reach across and grab on to the pilot, tamped down on the ridiculous urge to beg the other man to tell him to stay.
Or
Finn is a lost prince hunted down by the First Order for his abilities. Poe is sent by the Resistance to find him first.

Finn is slow-moving. The pilots pass him, leaping aboard the ships. The stormtroopers are getting close enough for their blaster fire to reach him, and he dodges. His “dodge” consists more of him falling headfirst into a cluster of bushes and not being able to get back up as his teammates dash past, but, semantics.
He pulls himself up just far enough to watch the ships start up and lift off the surface, and he comprehends one final thought before he blacks out:
They abandoned me.
