It's been hundreds of years since L'Manburg had fallen, and the land around it had succumbed to nature and destruction. The only things left, now, are ruins - a common tourist attraction for the modern world and its modern people.
Tommy finds himself working there at a hotdog stand. It's fun, probably.

“You aren’t fucking protecting me!” Tommy shouts. The car is heavy with jagged breaths, Wilbur catching his and Tommy finding his own, too. “You’re stifling me! You’re fucking killing me like a bug! I’m dying, Wilbur, I can’t live like this—”
“Oh, please—”
“Don’t pretend like you’re not happy to see me like this!” Tommy interrupts sharply, leaning forward in his seat and craning his neck to get a good look at him. “If you’re so fucking obsessed with controlling everything I do, you must like it when I’m fucking miserable, right?”
or: When Phil dies and Techno moves across the country as a result, Wilbur and Tommy are the only ones left in the house. Tensions rise over the months, and after the nastiest fight they've had in ages, Tommy catches the first bus he can find out of the state to crash at Dream's house. After a handful of days, when the anger has subsided and he's ready to go home... his bus money has made a mysterious disappearance, and Tommy is officially stranded.

You have never heard him use that name before, but he responds to it as naturally as if he has never been anyone else. You begin to wonder just how long your brother has been sneaking off to play human.

The masked man scoffed. “Of course you act like this. Communicator. Hand it over. You obviously don’t mean it. If you’re going to waste my time by making me repeat myself, I’m going to take away a privilege of yours. If you don’t respect me, I’m not going to respect you.” He held out a hand expectantly, and Tommy’s stomach turned at the thought of being away from the one connection he had with everybody else. Still, it was an order, not a request.
He summoned the device from his inventory, he clutched it tightly in his hand then held it over Dream’s open palm, for just a moment before letting it drop into the man's waiting hand. He regretted it almost instantly when he remembered everything that was held inside of it. Especially some of the more recent messages he had sent. He could only hope Dream would just put it away somewhere for a while, not look at anything on it, then give it back once Tommy managed to prove himself worthy of it again.
It didn’t seem like he would be that lucky this time around.

Dream steps forward, sword at the ready at his side and the revival books already in his Ender chest just outside the iron door.
Once he's only a step away, he raises the sword above him.
This is so invigorating, so exciting. His blood rushes in his veins. He's always been an adrenaline junky. Maybe that's why he's so addicted to this. It feels so right.
He smiles, his teeth all in display in a sign of madness running through him like a disease.
It seems in a moment of bravery, Tommy decides to look up.
Dream has the full display of his tears stained face and fear filled eyes on him now. It makes him pause.

“Hey, what’s going on in there?”
Silence was finally present, but that didn’t answer his question. Someone, at last, spoke through the communicator. “Dream, this kid sucks.”
Or, Dream had a call from Punz that Tommy was being trouble again, so he decided to sort some things out.
