Summary
The tension is suffocating, the air thick as Fushiguro doesn’t let go for several long moments. In fact, he holds on until Yuji finally musters up enough courage to ask, “what are you-”
“Sorry.” Fushiguro cuts in hastily, dropping Yuji’s wrist and it leaves his skin feeling unpleasantly cold. “Just checking,” he adds, voice mumbled. Quiet enough that Yuji almost misses what was said. He wants to question what Fushiguro had meant by that, but his friend is already pushing past him and heading to their starting positions.
His own fingers brush up against his wrist, they don’t bring him the same searing touch that Fushiguro’s did. Instead he’s met with clammy skin and the faint thrum of his own pulse.
Oh. His pulse.

Or: Yuji Itadori is really good at bottling up his own feelings. Especially after he comes back to life. Because why would you face your own muddled emotions when it's easier to just blatantly ignore them?

Summary
Yuuji Itadori expected many things when he was first forced into his current job. He expected to make and serve sushi, which he does. He expected to not get that many customers, which he does. He expected to turn a blind eye whenever his bosses do their job, which he does. Never in his contract was it stated that he himself would have to turn his knife onto another living person.
Yuuji supposes his definition of "person" differs from that of his bosses' because what Yuuji Itadori did not expect was to come into work one morning just to find out he may have to kill a mermaid in a matter of months.
