As soon as Max turned 16, his father began berating him to get a job so he could pay rent for his room.
Actually, that’s a lie. It started a couple weeks before he turned 16. To “give him time.”
He actually expected Max to have a job as soon as he was 16.
It wasn’t so bad at first, since he didn’t have school and he could manage his part-time job and whatever sport practice he had going on at that time. But once the school year started…
Max was always a bully. But in his junior year, he became a literal monster.
OR: Max works at Beanies and accidentally sort of makes friends with a regular customer who just happens to be a nerd.

Those three words barely made it all the way form the back of Jon’s throat, through is teeth and finally his lips with how dry his mouth had suddenly become, tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth as if fastened there with glue while he felt his cheeks heat up in the hidden comfort of Tim’s jumper.
“Yeah, and I know so”, Tim told him softly, then added, “so we’re alright, aren’t we?”
“I- yes. Yes we are”
“Good”, Tim sighed, quietly smiling when he hugged Jon to his chest and felt his arms come up to wrap around his neck and return the embrace, “and we can easily fix the rest too, you know”
“Do I?”
“Yup. Magic word’s ‘open communication’”
“That’s two words”
“You can’t know whether I meant the s as a verb”
“That sentence wouldn’t have a predicate at all if you didn’t"
