Edward looks at Jacob with a sad smile, eyes glossy as if he is about to cry as if he had the right to.
“I know Jacob” His voice is soft, wavering.
“I hate me too”

Rather than breaking his bones, the Newborn vampire that Jacob attempts to fight to save Leah pierces his neck. Edward tries to suck the venom out before the damage is done.
He succeeds but only makes things worse.
And Jacob is the one who suffers because of it.
