A warm breeze brushed between them, shifting Brill’s bangs across her forehead, her forelocks tickling her nose. Was she afraid of the threat Smaug posed? She should be… Anyone with half of a brain would know to fear a dragon. So why was it that when she thought of the dragon, she felt nothing while her fear of her uncle and brothers was enough to send shivers crawling up her arms like little spiders? The only reasonable conclusion she could come to was that she was a coward.
And a spineless one at that.
Inclining her head towards Balin, patiently awaiting her answer to his unassuming question, she murmured, “I fear not for my life but Thorin son of Thrain has already broken my spirit once.”

For Addison, the world of Middle-Earth has always been fiction. A fairytale she grew up reading about. Tolkien's works were her parents' favorite, and they passed on that love to her before they died. They always talked as though it were real-and as a child, she believed it-but she's an adult now, her parents have been gone for years, she knows that none of it is real.
But when someone from her past suddenly reappears, with an incredible story, she finds herself being thrust into a world she believed to be fiction. Can she change the future or will the world she grew up dreaming be doomed to destruction?This story literally started because I (who loves the Hobbit and LOTR but doesn't know a whole lot about Tolkien's other works) was like "If it's called Middle-Earth, that implies there are other Earths." So here we are.

Summary
Kai is not to be trusted.
That's what he believes to be true, anyway.
And yet, earlier in their journey, the Aedyran envoy Stell declared that she did trust him. She trusted Kai enough to spend a mortifying — albeit enjoyable — night with him while she was suffering the agonizing effects of heat-inducing spores. In the wake of that encounter, however, Kai pushed away his 'selfish' feelings and insisted that the night would not change anything between him and the envoy he respects above all else.
But now, as they stand together beside the cairn of Kai's late friend, Tama, he can no longer hide his heart from Stell. Now, as the walls fall and truth comes to light, the two of them may finally begin to start again together — sailing on to warmer waters.
...that is, if Kai can find Stell when she gets stranded in a storm.
