Marius snorts into his drink. He glances derisively over at Leon’s unreadable face.
“Would you look at that,” Marius says blandly. “The Envoy’s got jokes.”
Beneath that woody, mask-like growth, Leon frowns.
“I wasn’t joking,” he protests.
“Pe dracu,” Marius scoffs, “Coming from a blind kith? It is.”
“I don’t need eyes to know that,” Leon insists.
Traveling with the imperial envoy has reminded Marius to expect the unexpected. Perhaps it should not have come as a surprise to him, then, that the one person who can see straight through him is someone who cannot see at all.

Kai's heart breaks for Stell. All her life, she has longed to find her place and purpose in the universe. Instead, what she uncovers within the ruins of Naku Kubel is not the peace she hoped for, but rather a revelation that leaves her in pieces. To make matters worse, she doesn't have time to gather herself up before being forced to make an impossible decision that will decide the fate for the people of Shatterscarp. And yet, earlier in their journey, the Aedyran envoy Stell declared that she did trust him. She trusted Kai enough to spend a mortifying — albeit enjoyable — night with him while she was suffering the agonizing effects of heat-inducing spores. In the wake of that encounter, however, Kai pushed away his 'selfish' feelings and insisted that the night would not change anything between him and the envoy he respects above all else.
But now, as they stand together beside the cairn of Kai's late friend, Tama, he can no longer hide his heart from Stell. Now, as the walls fall and truth comes to light, the two of them may finally begin to start again together — sailing on to warmer waters.
...that is, if Kai can find Stell when she gets stranded in a storm.

Summary
When the Aedyran envoy accidentally inhales the spores of an explosive mushroom, she develops a condition that sends her into an insatiable heat. Her companion — Kai — does his best to help, even if that assistance turns out to be more ‘hands-on’ than either of them expected.
Of course, not everything they feel can be blamed on the spores. As the night goes on, Stell and Kai begin to realize that their friendship goes far, far deeper than either of them have ever dared to hope.
