  1. Summary

    And this is good old Boston
    The home of the bean and the cod
    Where the Lowells talk only to Cabots,
    And the Cabots talk only to God.
    -- John Collins Bossidy

    This city - filled with "courage, compassion, and strength that knows no bounds" - isn't their home, but it becomes a safe haven anyway. [Favorite characters in Boston.]

    Summary

    “Oh, my Oz, Elphie! They are from a secret admirer!” Galinda practically bounced in place, the paper held aloft like a prize.

    “So?” she said. “That’s hardly worth bursting an eardrum.”

    But Galinda’s eyes sparkled in a very specific, unsettling way.

    “But they’re for you!”

    Or,

    someone has been leaving flowers at Elphaba’s door for weeks, and she’s certain it’s a cruel joke—until the notes start feeling like truth, and she starts hoping, and maybe falling, for the one person she thought would never see her like that.

    Summary

    Before the fights and the couples’ therapy and the slow, inevitable drift. Before the night he came home from work to find Marina on the sofa, pale and drawn, already knowing every word that was about to come out of her mouth (because the words were already on his tongue, weren’t they?). Before the thousands spent on divorce lawyers and moving into the sad flat Anthony found for him and having to tell the fucking kids (worst bit – Oliver had gotten so quiet and Amanda had cried silently; wouldn’t let either of them touch her).

    He could have gotten out of it. Ben had called him and said we can find someone else in a way that made it very clear they probably couldn’t, and Colin being Colin (reliable; helpful – a dope, maybe), had said no, no, I’ll do it.

    Which is how he ends up in Bari, parked in a service station in a cramped hire car; forty-five; divorced; and about to embark on a two-week trip across Italy he had booked in an attempt to save his marriage. Without, you know, his wife.

    Deeply upsetting how good this is. You will be emotionally flailed alive and simultaneously realize your own inadequacy as a writer and somehow you will enjoy it.

    Summary

    New York Times Bestselling author Colin Bridgerton is in the midst of a flop. The sales for his second romance novel are abysmal, the online reviews are even worse, and someone out there is writing fanfics of his work that far outshine the original.

    There’s only one person who can help him fix this. The only problem? He hasn’t spoken to her in seven years.

    1. Living in the small town she grew up in;
    2. Working at her family's diner;
    3. Single;
    4. Hopelessly in love with Colin Bridgerton.

    When she becomes convinced that it's time to settle, Colin is happy to help her find a husband. The rest of her friends and family in Mayfair, however, have other plans.

    Me, 4/4/25, 5:39 EST: "um you said small town but you did not say GILMORE GIRL AND A CINDERELLA STORY VIBES"

    Rachel is a Very Good Writer and it's infuriating.
