He barely noticed the raindrops pricking his skin as fragments of evening’s events replayed over and over in his head like a broken record.
“Ungrateful. Stupid. This isn’t what I raised you for—”
“Look at your siblings. You’re a disgrace—”
“Give up. This petty ‘dream’ isn’t worth it—”
“Foolish. You will be left with nothing if you continue—”
“Useless. Why can’t you understand?!”
He blinked back tears as the harsh words cut deeper into his heart. All he could remember after that was the pain erupting on his face and his sudden overwhelming desire to leave. So, he did just that. His skin and clothes were drenched as the rain beat down on him, but he didn’t care. He wandered the streets in a daze, before stopping dead in his tracks.
“Wait…where am I going?” he thought.
He had been too distracted to realise where his legs were taking him. He peered through the torrent of rain, barely make out the words on the nearby signboard.
Oh. His subconscious was bringing him sanctuary.
Or, after a fight with his dad, Toya decides to visit his siblings to help cheer him up.

“Yes, Akito,” Toya said, adjusting his grip on Akito so he wouldn’t slip. “I’m here.”
Akito squished his cheek against Toya’s shoulder.
“I love you,” he slurred.—

Hunter groaned and put his head in his hands. “I think I’m going crazy, Luz,” he sighed, “I’m having memories of Flapjack being with me in times I know I hadn't met her yet. Like-like when I was a kid, it's like she's there when I didn't know she existed. And sometimes I hear her and it scares me half to death.”

Summary
Hunter is a sad, hollow thing.
As much as Hunter feared his uncle’s disappointment, he craved his approval more. The constant pressure to act better, do better, be better was a familiar weight on his shoulders. Once he got to the Human Realm, that weight changed. It was still heavy with terror at what might be the punishment for not completing said tasks, and still all-consuming in his broken brain, but it was confusing too. What was he meant to do? How was he meant to help?
He was being lazy.
Being lazy meant being useless.
Being useless meant being replaced.
Being replaced meant Uncle Belos would–
“Hunter, are you alright? You’re making that face again,”

Being in the Human Realm is an adjustment for Hunter. Dealing with that change while struggling to cope with the loss of his only parental figure who was emotionally and physically abusive to him his entire life? So much harder.
