For a moment, there was little to no expression on her face. Whatever shock had been in her system had boiled away, leaving a state of apathy behind he wasn't particularly familiar with. It was pleading, begging, anger and desperate fury that he reckoned with and grown to expect - not this unwavering stare of her eyes into his.
"Is this how you repay people who save your life? You threaten them with 'justice'?" The curl of her lip was sharp; he knew it was out of disgust. "Who are you to accuse me of committing a crime?"
"The General Mahamatra."
It was Six Cardinal Sins within which he operated, dared to hold his head high to. But, it was when those sins blurred into something man-made, something erring on the side of human arrogation, that his own steadfast rules began to judge him on the order of ma'at.
The rainforest or the desert. Justice or impudence. A Potter or the General.

There was no change in her expression. She simply remained as she was - standing upright in clothes he had not seen before. Had he not been irritated, he might have commented on the fine thread work of the skirt, or the pleats of the fabric that adorned her shoulder. “So, so. Do men of your country not like help?”
“I am capable of managing these lands. Your hands are delicate and aren’t suitable for this work.”
“Unsuitable. Not incapable,” she replied, making Kun grunt. Fortunately, his glamour covered the plume of smoke that escaped his nostrils. “It is not right to be an idle guest.”
Suddenly, he found himself missing the solemn and quiet nature of the Souls that drifted along the river. At least they were predictable, following the unspoken yet intrinsic rules of Diyu. In this realm, there was no such order. “Must you argue with everything I say?”
“I am not arguing.”
Heaven's will was absolute. Any transgressions would not be easily forgiven; In the eyes of the realm above, all were equal.
If only Qian Kun knew repentance would come second in the throes of his heart's desires.

Instantly, Wonho looked his way - ears catching onto the slightest sound and Ten was taken aback. The Ren waved, his limbs too stiff to return the gesture.
“Are you a Ren also?” Wonho asked when he was close enough, the timber of his voice achingly familiar - a hazy dream that Ten couldn’t quite recall. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before.”
What was a follower to a God? A civilian to a Ren?
What was he to ‘Wonho’?
Would he be struck down if he spoke?
(No, he wouldn’t. He knew this like he knew the place of every bloodcell in his body. But there was something else that resounded within him.)
"No."
One might argue that there is little difference between a hero and a civilian: bravery, hubris, perhaps loyalty.
Could a Ren breathe in this foul odour, tolerate how his words - once prophetic - were now nothing more than heresay? Could a civilian listen to inaudible whispers, feel the sting of his teeth breaking skin?Did it really matter when it all bled into one?

Summary
If there was anything in the world that you lacked, it was adventure; a journey that you would tell people for years to come.
Setting foot outside your tiny town had never been so daunting, especially in the presence of a stern mouthed stranger you had only met the night before. It didn't take you long to realise that the world that you thought you knew was, in reality, much different - this realisation came in the form of a devastatingly beautiful man that you swore had fallen from the very heavens. The more you became wrapped up in him, the more you would learn about the place you once called home, and the people that lived alongside you.
You would come to learn that such knowledge came with a heavy price.
