Summary

Summary
Joel had been training his whole life for this one day.
The war ended when he was three, a bloody history erased in the blink of an eye. But it came at a price. His hand was promised in marriage from that moment on, to the girl next in line for the Ocean Empire throne. He had never met her. And he would be getting married to her the same day he would meet her.
But Joel didn't want this. He didn't want any of it. He didn't want to meet this girl, or marry her, not this stuck up princess of a kingdom that killed thousands of Mezalean soldiers, ripped them from their chances of ever coming home.
So he left.
He left, he ditched his kingdom on the day he was to be wed.
Turns out, he wasn't the only one with that idea.

From the moment Apo could comprehend her grandmother's language, she loved fairy- tales.
Every night, she'd devour stories of dragons, princesses, warriors, fae, even tiny people that lived in the walls- all fighting for good, or peace, or love… but, although enjoying almost all stories, she hated one thing about them: the only time she saw rats in them were when they'd scuttle about in dark places, gnashing their teeth or getting tangled in something they shouldn't; they were, as the humans believed, villains.
Perhaps that's why she despised the Tale of Despereaux so immensely.

Summary
A collection of headcannons from my tumblr, put all together here for ease of finding later. Plus some longer responses which have spiraled out into a fic of their own (the bad kids are working over the school break in the mountains of chaos and are taken in by a goblin horde)
I asked people to provide me with their thoughts, I rotated them in my brain and deposited them back into the world. Some of them have been expanded upon thoroughly, some are just mutual agreement and some are me just throwing stuff into the void completely unprompted.

Summary
It is becoming easier, almost, to adjust to the new way of life. He has switched to using his left hand to cast the spell, and the effects are creeping further and further up his left arm with each passing day, even if they vanish by the next morning.
But that is an understandable price to pay. A reasonable price, if it keeps everyone else safe. It doesn’t matter, really, if he has started to find more and more lacerations from stray waves of shadow each morning as he lies in his untouched bed. It doesn’t matter that the pupils of his eyes, when he gazes into the reflective glass of the captain’s desk, are starting to disappear entirely. Nor that he will sometimes start at the faint feeling of fingers threading around his neck, tracing the line of his cheek.
“Praesidio. Praesidio, fortier defendebant, defendebant splendide...”
The Rocks family is safe. Any price is worth that.
