“Caitlyn,” she says. That isn’t right. That wasn’t the answer Vi was after. Names are easily given away but so seldomly remembered in Stillwater, but it echoes in Vi’s head. She almost doesn’t hear the actual answer. “And though I have no doubt a thousand people have given this answer before, I did nothing. I was doing my job, and then I was here. No trial. No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”

Caitlyn panicked, feeling extraordinarily unprepared having been thrust into her new position without so much as even a handbook to consult. What were the formalities? What was she supposed to respond with? Where was the damn push to talk button…
“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”
OR
Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

Vi wanted to kill them. All of them. Wanted to go back inside and paint the walls red for daring to touch her, to frighten her, to make her feel small and powerless and alone.
Instead, she reached up and cupped Caitlyn's face in her hands.
Caitlyn's breath caught. Her eyes finally lifted to Vi's, wide and wet in the moonlight.
"I'm sorry," Vi said quietly. "I should not have left you alone. Dat was my fault. It will not happen again."

Caitlyn's eyes are staring into hers and Vi is eleven years old again, when Vander took her stargazing and taught her a trick to switch your perspective so that the stars are below you instead of above and it feels like there’s nothing at all stopping you from falling into them.
“S’alright, Cupcake. Had worse,” Vi mumbles as her eyelids begin to flutter, but she’s not sure if that’s true. She hasn’t felt this numbness before, the one spilling all over her chest and throat and there’s a thick fog filling her mind and something is pounding harsh and fast in her ears.

One year since toxic gases poured through the streets of Piltover. One year since Ambessa Medarda declared Martial Law on the so-called Nation of Zaun. One year since Jayce Talis disappeared.
Vi is below rock bottom and the stone is so soft and warm that she thinks she will stay down here, thank you very much.
Caitlyn's new life is confusing and empty and she can't quite forget about the one person who ever helped her feel less lost.
One night, one fight, one knife hurtles them back together and onto the run and they realise they're holding on to each other like the earth itself is moving away under their feet.

"You're soaking," Violet commented, her voice raw with desire. Then she sharply drew back her glistening fingers and brought them to her own mouth. "Is this for me?"
Caitlyn arched her back, unable to resist the provocation, and shook her head. "No. He got me wet."
Vi’s eyes grew cold, her smirk widening into a dangerous line. "Then why are you in my bed?"
Or Caitlyn is getting married in ten days. And Vi — her ex, the last person she should ever see again — just showed up, wearing that same reckless smile and the same eyes that still make her burn.
