AM has proven to its humans that they cannot live without it —and, although it would never admit or show it, to itself— that torture no longer pleases it as it once had, as art pleases humans.
In a reflective absence, the survivors have changed: Gorrister has regained hope; Nimdok, memory; Benny, humanity; Ellen, autonomy; and Ted, perhaps, sanity. But the computer still has an ace up its sleeve.
Human suffering has always been AM’s specialty, and now it prepares its most ambitious performance yet: an orchestrated system of gestures and signals whose interpretation hides its purpose. Acting as both musician and listener, it will do anything to archive what it has incessantly been craving for.

Before, they were only as close as Billy let anyone get, but lately the distance between them has been shrinking. He’s not the kind of guy who likes to talk about himself. Mostly he listens, prods, collects, but never offers. He learned young that when you’ve got a brain like he does you can’t afford to tell people what you’re thinking or how you really feel. Stu isn’t one of those people though, Stu has to keep his thoughts secret too and now this is theirs to keep, between them.
This is mostly only going to be in cannon with the first movie (the movie 3 retcon is not for me), but may also diverge in some places, especially when we get to the events closer to the end of the first movie. More specific tags and warnings will be in the end of chapter notes.Series
