It hadn’t bothered her much at first, but as those children grew, visual representations of the passage of time, Waverly’s heart began to sink under the sand of her own hourglass. She didn’t need to get married or even have kids, per se, but Waverly did want love. To be the little spoon on a cold night. To have more than just dance to fill her soul.*

New walking boots pinching, Waverly waited in the hotel lobby for Nicole the next morning. Wynonna was with her, head thumping for having consumed way too many tequilas the evening before.
9.00am came and went. So did 9.15, and 9.30. Waverly wondered if she should call. About to try her number, she spotted Nicole's truck pull in, her stomach registering a flutter of excitement as Nicole strolled towards the entrance, before running back to the truck. She laughed when she saw Nicole return with two baseball caps bearing the name of the town they were about to visit.
"Welcome to Cerro Rico," she said, smiling at Waverly...
