    Will is too-drunk and laid out on his bed when he asks, “Are you like, also in love with all of your friends?”

    “Hm?” Coy tried to understand what he was saying, leaning forward from his spot on the edge of his mattress, “I mean, I love all of my friends. Some more than others. You, ant, and bon more than most.”

    “No, I mean, like in love, just a little bit.” Will asked, “I used to not understand how crushes worked. I thought people made it up, when they got all obsessed with someone attractive they didn’t know. I thought butterflies were a myth.”

    “I don’t think butterflies are a myth.” Coy responded immediately, and it’s an all consuming and burning sort of thing. Coy could tell you, for certain, that butterflies were not a myth when he took in the sight of an unwound Will Wahoney with his purple bonnet tied over his curls and his pajama pants hanging too low looking over at him through the almost-dark.

    “I don’t think butterflies are a myth anymore.” Will told him, “Because I’ve fallen in love with my best friends.”

    Or,

    Friendships fade into romance without the participants noticing all the time. It's rare that it happens to a group of four friends in quick succession, though.

    Standing ovation, acceptance speech, Tony award in hand. And then,

    Coy and Hanbon had been best friends for a few years now, around the same time he'd came out in middle school, and considering that she only lived one house over to the left, it made hanging out easy. Hanbon had always stuck around him even when the bullying got worse. They'd always hang out on a day off, the summer break, weekends, really any day that they had free. Then, there was...
    Anthony Potero, Hanbon's older brother. Captain of the varsity basketball team. Teachers and parents loved him, kids watched his games and wished to be like him. 

    And that pissed Coy off.
    He noticed when Coy was looking from across the lawn, when he would be the one to bash against Hanbon's window to wake her, offering him rides to school in the morning whenever Bon was too lazy to walk,
    There was one thing he could never tell Bon, that he'd been thinking about Anthony way more recently. Like how-
