The only reason human-wolf hybrid Geralt wasn't put down immediately after the massacre at Blaviken Hybrid Fighting Ring was because hybrids are very valuable. And hey, surely they can sell him to someone who never heard of the massacre? Right? Nope. Everyone heard of the 'Butcher'. Everyone who is in the market for a basically human looking non-human who can fight really well, that is.
Geralt is about to be put down when an unscrupulous shop assistant decides to sell him to a naive young woman who really only wanted a big scary dog to protect her while she lives the dangerous life of a female musician travelling alone. After all, a mix of wolf and human is basically a dog, right? And what if she neglects to mention that Geralt is as sentient as any human? He'll have to play along if he doesn't want to die, and by the time he lashes out and kills his new owner ... well, it won't be the pet shop's problem anymore. -

Summary
Zarsha is not much surprised when someone sneaks into his bedroom at night to assassinate him. What he is surprised about is that it is not his rival for the hand of Queen Ellinsoltah, but his - much more successful - rival for the love of the queen, Graesan Rah-Brondar. Things get awkward when, during their wrestling on his bed, Zarsha's months-long sexual frustration results in an involuntary physical reaction.
Turns out, Graesan has a massive inferiority complex, and being desired by the man he has long feared would woo his beloved queen away from him does wonders to soothe his anger.(This is a shameless smut fic that contains only as much plot as is absolutely necessary and is based only on The Women's War, entirely disregarding the sequels that I have not yet read. And the fact that poor Ellin likely has more important things to worry about than her love life. )

Théoden and Éomer come up with what they think is a fantastic plan to prevent Éowyn from dying while fighting orcs and bandits: Arrange a marriage for her!
When they write to the King of Gondor to ask him to send suitable noblemen to Rohan, Faramir learns of the plan, and though he has met the lady but briefly, he finds he would rather that the fair shieldmaiden remain, well, a maiden.
There is no need to examine this feeling any further, as Queen Arwen is of the exact same opinion, having received a letter by Éowyn, who shares the selfsame sentiment. It is soon decided that Faramir needs to ride to Rohan and talk some sense into the men. -

When you travel the lands of Men, you let them assume that you are male. It is just safer that way. The custom always served Gimli well. Until an elven prince fell in love with her male disguise, destroying any hope that he might love her real self.
Elven history is full of cautionary tales about unusual desires. If you love a mortal, you will suffer. If you lust after your cousin, you are probably going to betray your city to the orcs, soon. It is with great sorrow, therefore, that Legolas realizes, he has fallen in love with the dwarf introduced to him as Gimli, son of Gloin. A mortal, and worse yet, a male. What does that say about him as a person?
Aragorn, a Man who has lived among men for some time, is very well aware that lusting after a first cousin barely scratches the surface of perversions his fellow men are capable of. Falling in love with a male? Does that even count? As long as the men in question are not married to other people, he really cannot bring himself to care. Except Legolas' health is steadily worsening due to the guilt he is feeling, and something needs to be done.
