Summary
Lando Norris has spent the better part of the past seven years trying to avoid thinking of a certain someone – in general, and specifically in any and all inappropriate context – for his own sanity of mind. His resolution for the new year: Continue down that path, do not exit the highway. There are no signs he won’t be able to keep up the charade – at least until it’s 10:53 PM on New Year’s Eve at a shitty house party in Monte Carlo, and he’s in a bathroom, on his knees, in front of none other than Carlos Sainz.
You know what they say: The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

“So we’re here,” Lando points to the label on the map reading ‘Kawakawa bay’, “and we want to be…. where?” he trails off looking over at Carlos who was staring intently at the map.
“I think the lady said It was one bay over?”
Lando drops his head on the table. “Mate,” he exhales, forehead pressed to the wood “I cannot believe we are travelling to some random-as-fuck beach campsite because the lady in the supermarket line recommended it”
“She was a nice lady, Lando” Carlos chides, “old people know things.”
“Of course we’re trusting beach advice from an ancient stranger in the supermarket queue. That’s totally normal.”Or, the one where best friends Carlos and Lando travel to an isolated beach in New Zealand on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to cure Carlos’s quarter life crisis and maybe even find a bit of love along the way.

“I read fics about myself,” Lando finally muttered, too fast, too quiet, as if confessing to the moon itself rather than to Verstappen, who was busy digging brownies out of the fridge.
The blanket draped over his shoulders, arms crossed across his chest, that somber expression on his face? It made the confession almost theatrical.
“I just hope it wasn’t from Wattpad.”
Lando Norris reads fanfics about himself, but there’s one he really doesn’t like. But apparently, God doesn’t like Lando either.
