    Summary

It was a strange place. The one and only home for miles which rented on a monthly bases, no need for a year-long commitment, and refraining from asking too many questions. It was fully furnished, the kitchen appliances were all supposed to work, there was heating ready if he stayed all the way through autumn and into winter. It was perfect. And it wasn’t even expensive. It had made him suspicious. Very much so.

“I have to ask, places like this are hard to find. Is there a catch?”

Nearing the end of his short life, Caleb Widogast finds the perfect place to finish up his affairs: a strange, colorful house, at the top of lonely hill. Problem is, he thought he would be alone in it.

“Tell me if I need to be gentler,” he whispered. “I’m sorry in advance if this hurts.”

Hal’s eyes fell shut. “I trust you.”

(Or, Bolaire stitches Hal up after yet another midnight skirmish.)

    Summary

Before Bolaire Lathalia, dancing was a weapon of destruction. Each step was measured and perfected to act out the role they were placed in. Their siblings danced around them, painting pictures into reality, spinning words into truth.

All for an audience of one.

After… After that, they slip into a deep slumber, thinking their role is finished. Only to wake up to a new master, dancing to the tune of another death. They flit through bodies with a slight falter, for their masters’ legs aren’t caught up to their rhythm. But they make it work with a flick of their wrist, a spell on their—the master’s tongue, for this is what they were made for.

When the act is finished, the curtain closes, and they go back to sleep, until they’re forced to repeat the same play, over and over again.

The battlefield is another stage for murder.

    Summary

The last body’s hands were slimmer. A little more…delicate. These are sturdier, not quite fitting in the gloves the way the last ones did.

“Might I walk you home?” Bolaire asks softly.

(Or, everyone is reeling in light of the attack on the Palazzo Davinos. As the Seekers take their leave and the Schemers plot their next move, Bolaire experiences the mortifying ordeal of having feelings, a body...and feelings about your body.)
