2006 was a busy year for 24 year-old Roman Roy, but if the devil works hard, Gerri Kellman works harder, and 2006 was a very productive year for the General Counsel. Unfortunately, the best-laid plans had not accounted for the power of cheek swabs and algorithms sixteen years later.
At least the timing could be worse! (It couldn't be worse, actually. This is definitely the worst possible time for this to happen. There is nothing more inconvenient than learning the most dire secret of your life after you and your siblings have been ousted and exiled and thrown onto the very thin ice of newfound trust.)

Thank God, Tom thinks, glancing down at himself, that there isn’t any blood this time, and as he finishes the thought he feels his face twist in a wry smile, and he chokes back a laugh that threatens to spill out of him. He’s standing in his office, holding some award he got for something related to ATN awkwardly in his right hand, almost like a club. He doesn’t remember what the award was for, but he does remember dragging Greg into his office for a celebratory drink afterwards.

Everything. After everything. There needed to be another word, more robust than everything, to describe simply how everything all that was.
It was exhausting just to try and skirt around it every day, and here it was towering over him as the corpse of Larry Bird being haunted by the ghost of a Victorian child.
