Summary
Will’s hand lifted as though he might reach, eyes suddenly bright with unshed tears. “You think I haven’t tried to hate you?!”
That stopped Mike from saying the thing on the edge of his tongue, the thing they both knew very well here in this hospital room.
Will’s voice rose. “You think I haven’t tried? Every time you act like this, like you don’t even like me at all! Like, we haven’t been friends for almost our whole lives! When you throw me away! You don’t get to decide how I feel, Mike. You don’t get to make me the villain in whatever story you’ve made up in your head!”
Mike stared at him, jaw tight, throat constricted. He didn’t know what to say—only that whatever he managed would probably be inadequate.
Will was trembling, fists clenched at his sides. “I’ve spent years trying. You didn’t care. After what you did, I tried to convince myself our entire friendship was fake! And you know what? It didn’t work! Because I do care. I’ve cared my entire fucking life. And that doesn’t just stop, no matter what. I can’t hate you, no matter what you do.”
Mike’s throat felt like hot glass.

“I… I used to be in love with you. I-I mean, of course, I'm not now, but-” he managed to whisper, almost so quietly that the steady patter of rain could easily drown him out. But Mike heard him—his slumped shoulders stiffened, and his wide eyes reflected Will. The message landed loud and clear between them.
His heart clenched, a tight ache in his chest growing through his body. Because those few simple words—saying with complete ease that he had simply moved on—were far from the truth.
He was still in love with Mike.
Hopelessly in love with that infuriatingly beautiful face, those soft pink lips that always seemed to invite a kiss. He was in love with the way Mike’s curly black hair would get tousled and messy whenever he ran his fingers through it. Those long lashes framing his stupidly adorable doe eyes—those were details that consumed his every thought, details that made his heart flutter and ache all at once.
“...Used to?”
Mike was still standing in the downpour, his hair and clothes soaked, face crumpled painfully. He looked cold and Will was surprised to find tears in his eyes, flowing out with the steady pour of rain.
“You mean you don’t have feelings for me anymore…?”

Summary
“Troy, I don’t think that this is such a good idea-” James started, taking a tentative step forward, but Troy cut him off.
“Dentist’s office opens in three!” Troy hollered, making Mike cringe.
“Two!”
…A long pause spaced out his words. This was Mike’s last chance to step away from the edge. Still, he stayed.
“One!”
He heard Dustin yell his name again, cracking in a cry of desperation.
Mike only gazed down at the murky water before he took another step forward, off the edge, and into the depths below.
or: Mike thinks that he's over that day at the quarry, but after a fitful night's sleep he wakes up screaming. Luckily, his best friend/crush (he's still oblivious to that fact though) is there to help.

Summary
"Mike runs his tongue over the bottom of Will’s lips, and they’re forced to pull apart, but only because one of the lights above them literally explodes. They both take a step back, breathing heavy. Will’s face is wet, and he instinctively goes to wipe his eyes, only to realize that they aren’t his tears, they’re Mike’s.
“I hate when you yell at me.” Mike says, and he sounds so broken that Will wants to crawl into a hole and never let anyone look at him again. He feels tears prick at the back of his own eyes, and fights to keep them contained. He feels like this isn’t about him, even though he knows it absolutely is,
“I- I’m so sorry.” he replies, and he is. It sounds pathetic, even to him. Mike laughs, but it’s more of a sob."
Or
Mike and Will have a fight after Will comes out. Unresolved feelings ensue.

Summary
When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)

Will stirred sleepily to the sound of voices and a heavy weight beside him.
“Whazup?” he mumbled, lifting his head off the pillow and blinking in the darkness.
“Shhh, it’s fine,” replied Mike’s soft voice, breaking through the stillness that had followed Will’s muffled question, “I’ve got this one. You can go back to sleep.”
Mike and Will take turns staying up with Holly, who has begun to have nightmares about the monsters in Hawkins. Things take a curiously domestic turn.

Summary
Mike swears he can hear a clock ticking, in tune to the beat of his heart, making his eardrums pulse. He wonders if it’s just his subconscious mind taunting him because he is very, very late to school.
And it’s all Will’s fault.
Coercing him to the backseat of the car before they could enter the school building. Batting his eyelashes at him innocently like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.

Mike Wheeler has never been happier. He has the best boyfriend in the world and the best set of friends anyone could ask for. He's popular, gets invited to parties, and he's STILL in the honeymoon phase of his relationship. He doesn't think his life could get any better. But then why does something feel...off?
