Summary
Merida Cousland had been raised a devout Andrastian; she had never had cause to doubt the existence of the Maker or the wisdom of that belief. The core rules were simple and sensible - kindness, compassion, justice, charity, honor, loyalty… these were all virtues she could understand and strive toward. That being said, however, Merida had always existed firmly inside this realm. The mysticism surrounding the faith she had belonged to all her life had flown almost entirely over her head. Such things made for good stories around a roaring winter’s fire, but that was all. She was no Fade-wandering mage and preferred it that way. This world she knew; this world she understood, even if she didn’t always like it.
Little did she know just exactly how deeply entangled in magic and mysticism her life already was.

Summary
This was a holiday prompt-fill for a friend on tumblr.
The promt: "The prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be on your own front door" A character of your choosing returns home for the holidays.
Oddly enough I chose a couple my friend and I had been privately RPing, mostly because they were on my mind and didn't see fit to leave until I'd written this! This is also based off the fact that Benedict once said he wanted to be a young father in an interview and well... I felt the need to give him a family, at least in fiction.
While this is not the first story I've ever written, this is the first one I've dared post online in a very long while.

“And what about you? Are you in safe hands?”
Robby runs a hand through his beard. He thinks about Whitaker clinging on behind him on the bike. He’d hold on so tight that it was like he was trying to pull Robby into his chest rather than himself into Robby’s back.
“I don’t know about that either.”

Sick with their own separate miseries, Robby and Whitaker take a trip out to Nebraska together on Robby's motorcycle. They don't expect to find what they need in each other. And yet...

“Why does everyone keep looking at me like that?”
Robby’s mouth turns up at one corner, as if something about the question amuses him. “Probably because you’ve been walking around the floor all morning smelling like me.”
While out thrift shopping, Whitaker makes a purchase that shakes up the entire emergency department.
