“What does dying feel like?”
Mydei stills. He could tell him of different sensations of death. He could tell him what it feels like when life ebbs out of your veins, and you can only watch it happen. He could tell him how the swift stab of a blade snuffs life out like a wayward candle. He could tell him that the River of Souls is a cold climb, with sweet voices whispering from beyond the shore, beckoning him to join them, relish in their touches yet again, after all the time that has passed.
Mydei gathers Phainon in his arms, burying his head in the Deliverer’s neck. Phainon is limp enough that it might be concerning, so Mydei just holds him tighter.
“You will find no comfort there.”
“No,” Phainon agrees, “such things are long beyond me.”

Summary
Ryuji's best-kept secret comes back to haunt him two years later when none other than Akechi Goro ends up being his waiter at his favorite diner. He can't help but be curious as to what the ex-detective's deal is, even if he has to keep buying him meals to trap him into spending time with him. The mystery of who Akechi truly is keeps Ryuji on his toes, and maybe he ends up learning more about himself as well.

Akechi Goro wakes up having been flung from the diet building, inexplicably alive. The last thing he remembers is closing the partition between himself and the Phantom Thieves to face his cognitive self alone. By all means, he should be dead. As he leaves the area, he comes across someone he never expected to be slumped against a light pole covered in bruises, but this night is filled with mysteries, including but not limited to why Ryuji is happier to see that Akechi is alive than Akechi himself feels to be alive.
