“How’d you know vanilla was my favorite, then?” Touya asked. His drained, broken heart gave up the fight, no longer picking out any ulterior motives in what was genuine kindness offered by Shouto’s tiny hands. His feet did, too; careful with the burns there, Touya crouched and placed the jug down, kneeling on the cold tiles and letting his shoulders sag, the tension slowly oozing out of his body.
Finally, 5 years later after Shouto was born, Touya was finally looking at his youngest brother and only saw that: a sibling who has faced the same hardships as he did, a sibling who wanted nothing more than a brother to connect with.
After his father was arrested for domestic abuse the same week that his mother was "banished" to a psychiatric ward, freshly-turned 14-years old Todoroki Touya has to deal with the grief of losing a parental figure that resembled a villain more than a father, a new life that was broken right from the start, and a younger sibling who was more similar to him than he realized.

He barely registered his fingernails digging into his palm. “Toga,” He growled, taking a step forward. Toga quickly took a step back, and she didn’t flinch. She didn’t. Still, Dabi stopped moving. “What did you do?”
There was a silence, before Toga- before Touya- let out a nervous laugh. It both made something untangle inside of him, knowing Toga wasn’t actually afraid of him, but also made his hands hot with suppressed flames. Touya shouldn’t laugh.
“I just did a bad thing!” She- he?- said in a shaky, singsong voice. It was enough to calm the heat that was building in his hands, simply in his confusion. “I regret the thing I did!”
Dabi had no idea what that meant.
