Summary
Buck’s life might not be what he imagined it to be while he grew up. But it doesn’t matter, because he has his beautiful baby girl and she means everything to him. But then someone from his past reemerges, and it stirs up feelings he’s tried to bury for years.

His dark hair is tussled around his head, sweaty from the helmet and probably a bit longer than it’s supposed to be, and his jaw is shadowed with stubble. In the fifteen years since Buck last saw him the boy he once knew has turned into a man, and Buck swallows to dampen his suddenly dry throat.
“Eddie.” He whispers hoarsely and the man blinks, once, twice before he hesitantly leans forward, like he’s about to step closer. -

Summary
It's simply a story of finding love, maybe where it’s not expected. Two oblivious best friends who slowly work their way through a new normal. But everything in life doesn't always go as planned, does it? Especially for these two.

He listens as the steps come closer, before halting, hesitating, and then there’s movement again. The sound of jeans being pulled off, and then the low thud of a pile of clothes hitting the floor. Then the comforter is moved back and the bed dips slightly as the body slides in, settling against the pillows next to him. Buck turns on his side, his body gravitating closer on its own, and he can smell rain and the outdoor air on the man’s skin.
“You smell like rain.” He mumbles hoarsely and feels how the bed moves again as there’s a shift.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.” Eddie whispers quietly as he turns on his side as well, facing Buck. His hand is resting between them and when he accidentally nudges Buck’s bicep he feels goosebumps spread over his skin at the cold touch.

Summary
It’s been 5 years since that day when Buck’s whole world crumbled. When he lost the love of his life, family and home all at once. He tried to keep in touch with Chris, he really did. But time and distance made it go further and further between the calls, and eventually they died out, transitioning into a venmo for birthdays and Christmas’s.
He never spoke to Eddie again.

The man freezes at the sight of him and Buck sees how his eyes widen in shock. For a moment they just stare at each other.
“Buck..?” Eddie eventually says hesitantly, eyes darting behind him towards the road, almost like he was looking for an explanation for his presence behind him, and Buck clears his throat before lifting an eyebrow.
“Well. You look pretty good for being on the brink of death.” He states dryly. -

Summary
On a night out with some of their friends, Eddie accidentally overhears a conversation between Buck and his sister. A conversation that makes his mind spin and leads to some realizations along the way.

“I’m worried about you.” Her voice is filled with concern and Eddie hesitates, not wanting to impose on something personal, but then Buck’s voice comes around the corner and he freezes up.
“I’m fine, Maddie.” Eddie can tell his friend is frustrated, can see the way his eyebrows furrow in his mind, and he frowns himself, this time in confusion. The man hasn't mentioned anything about something being wrong, what could make Maddie so worried?
“I don’t think you are. You can’t keep going on like this.” Maddie’s voice comes back again, this time a bit more sympathetic.
“So what do you suggest I do?” Buck snaps irritated and Eddie’s eyebrows shoot up. He doesn’t think he ever heard the man talk like that to his sister.
“Talk to him.”

Summary
Buck isn’t a firefighter, he just plays one on TV, or at least that’s what he’s about to do. He’s offered the chance to shadow the 118 to learn what it’s like to be a firefighter. Eddie is fed up with these Hollywood types turning up and feigning interest in the job that he loves. Buck, however, is nothing like that and everyone can see the connection they have.

"Shocking to no one, there’s nothing Eddie wouldn’t do for his son. Nothing.
Even if he can’t erase the decade and a half of trauma and hurt Christopher will no doubt have to unpack later in life, he can at least try and make up for the whole ‘making his son walk in on him with his dead mom’s clone’ thing, even if that means he has to be a bit more lenient and say yes to things he’d normally say no to.
Which is how he ends up in a crafts store with a moody teenager, a bossy best friend, and his actual boss, standing in the party decor aisle and arguing with the aforementioned bossy best friend on what color streamers and paper plates match the ladder truck’s paint coat best."

"Hear me out," Buck said. "Clearly, both of us are sick of dating other people. And we're a good fit, in pretty much every way that matters. So what if we're not in love? We don't need to be in love to be happy together."
Eddie frowned. "So basically, we'd be boyfriends, without benefits?"
"Yes!" Buck snapped his fingers. "Like platonic boyfriends! We'd get all the benefits of a relationship and none of the heartbreak."
And maybe Eddie had finally lost his mind, or maybe it was from all the alcohol clouding his judgment, but the idea of it didn't sound half as crazy as it should have.

Resting his head in his hands, Eddie sighed deeply, “This being between a rock and a hard place,” he groaned.
“Probably more like Between Scylla and Charybdis,” Eddie looked up with the face of pure confusion, “Cause y’know, you two have this whole Greek tragedy thing about you,” he gestured his hand at Eddie.
“We don’t have a ‘Greek Tragedy Thing’ going on,” Eddie let out a little laugh, “It’s more like the shittiest timing in all of history,” he mumbled.

Summary
