Samira Mohan doesn’t lose- Well, except maybe to anyone coached by Jack Abbot. The infuriatingly composed legend is responsible for every professional defeat on her record.
So when she’s knocked out of Wimbledon by a 17 year-old, coached by Jack, of course- Samira thinks it can’t get worse. Then he’s named head coach of Team USA for the Paris Olympics.
If she wants the one title she’s never won- Olympic gold- she’ll have to train under the man who’s not only outmaneuvered her for years, but who haunts her thoughts and dreams far more than she’d like to admit.
She hates him.
At least, she thinks she does.

Jack’s eyebrows furrowed in utter confusion. “I’m sorry, but I don’t think we’ve officially met yet.”
“I’m Samira Mohan,” she said, there was a brilliant grin expanding over her face. “Doctor Samira Mohan.”
Jack had been eager to see how she handled the floor at night. He least of all expected her to be the most striking woman he’d ever laid eyes on and looking at him as though he was holding the sun in his hands.
She breezed right past his bewilderment. “You don’t know me yet, but I’d really like to catch up. Want to grab breakfast after our shift?”
A deep flush crept up Jack’s neck, blooming past his eyebrows. Good lord, she was an intern and he was her superior!
Before he could spiral into a professional panic, Samira interrupted his thoughts gently. Her gaze lingered on the exhaustion etched on his face and the slight way he was favoring his left side. “You’ve been having a hard time. Me too.”
His posture loosened, he was surprised by how effortlessly she cut straight to the core.
“I think we’re going to be okay,” she murmured. She held his gaze for a moment longer to memorize every detail. “I’ll see you at Bertha’s?”

They’ve been calling each other the stupid nicknames since their time in the VA when an older Vet with a gnarly leg lac from a fishing hook thought Samira and he were together.
Jack was hunched over, suturing, and she wandered in to watch him. She criticized a stitch he made, pointing out he placed it a little too close, leaning in over his shoulder. She stayed there watching him fix it.
“I envy you two,” Mr Kennedy said as Samira was about to pull the curtain back to leave, a smug smile on her face after she had bumped Jack’s shoulder with her own for doing a good job. Mr. Kennedy was smiling at them, a little twinkle from the fluorescents in his eyes. “Young love is such a precious thing.”
