Summary

“Alright, since you’re so determined. What have you got? Compliment me, love,” James laughs with more conviction this time and points to his face. “Perhaps there’s something in this area you’d like to heap praise on?”
“Hm,” Sirius rakes his gaze over James’ handsome features. His hazel eyes are half-crinkled with mirth, his hair resembles a rat’s nest, and his smile could illuminate the whole midnight sky. “There are certain aspects of your general visage I learned to appreciate.”
“Such poetry. I might actually swoon.”***
James Potter received his soulmark at the ripe age of eleven, on the same day he met the love of his life.
Sounds perfect. In theory. In reality, Sirius Black doesn’t have a soulmark, so he can’t be James’ soulmate. James is clearly destined for someone else, while Sirius is meant to wander through life alone.
But James never gave a fig about destiny and similar rubbish. He doesn’t care what the higher powers intend for him. There’s only one person who owns his heart, no matter what the universe says.
No matter the soulmark. Or the lack thereof.

Regulus Black is an overworked cardiac nurse who's life is 90% work, 5% playing defense against his own friends at the bar, and 5% keeping his best friend and roommate from burning the apartment down. He doesn’t have time for new emotions, complex relationships, or sleep for that matter. But when the brother he hasn’t seen in a decade, who he’s only recently gotten back in contact with, asks to take him out to lunch and catch up - he can’t help but accept the invitation. An invitation that opens up a world of shit he really doesn’t have time for, but he finds himself making time for anyways.
James Potter has been floating aimlessly for his entire adult life - desperate to figure things out on his own, and managing to disappoint his mother every step of the process. His apartment is barely livable, he's done nothing with his degree, and he’s not sure how much longer he can maintain his happy go lucky demeanor. When his best friend asks him to tag along to see the brother he hasn’t seen in ten years, James is more than happy to help. He’s certain that after a decade of distance, the feelings that turned his entire world upside down a decade ago are well and truly dead. They are dead, right?
