The underwater cavern glimmered faintly, shards of broken moonlight spilling through cracks in the rock. Percy stood frozen, his reflection trembling in the pool at his feet.
Across the chamber, she stood—her hair shimmering like constellations, dark eyes drawing him in with a gravity he couldn’t explain.
“You’ve forgotten,” she said softly.
Percy reached out, instinct overriding thought, but as their fingers almost touched, the cavern vanished into darkness.
He woke abruptly, the scent of salt and starlight still clinging to the air.

He shouldn't have to bring the slug with him.
