Summary
The realization goes something like this, as Eddie sits under a flapping rainbow pride flag in the bay of the firehouse and studies its colors.
Red, like his cheeks when Buck smiles at him.
Orange, like the juice he wishes he'd started drinking years ago.
Yellow, like the color of Shannon's dress the day she died.
Green, like the jealousy that strangles him when he thinks about losing Buck.
Blue, like the color of the most beautiful eyes he knows.
Violet, like the bruise blooming on Buck's left cheekbone. Right where Eddie wants to place his lips.
And Eddie thinks, for the first time, that maybe he feels something approaching pride, or something adjacent to it at least, for himself.
Or; In one Pride Month, Eddie meets an old friend, learns about himself, comes out to people who love him and learns to be proud (in roughly that order).

Summary
"Oh," Theo stops, stunned. "I think that's Sherman's tree."
"The General Sherman Tree," Buck corrects. "Gotta put some respect on his name."
"What did the general even do?" Eddie wonders aloud.
"Not sure," Buck ribs, nudging Eddie playfully. "I wasn't talking about him. I meant you gotta put some respect on the tree's name."
"Right," Eddie's grin still sits plainly on his face. "My bad. Just didn't expect you to assume the tree's gender."
Buck sputters, the laugh that emerges from him almost incredulous. He gives Eddie a playful shove, and Eddie dodges out of the way gracefully, situating himself next to Theo. Theo, who is still staring up at the feat of nature, slack-jawed and wide-eyed.
"It's big!" Theo exclaims, slightly breathless.
"The biggest, if you recall," Chris adds helpfully.
"Can I grow that big?"
Or; The Buckley-Diaz family takes a trip to Sequoia National Park. Buck and Eddie find their way to each other in the meantime.

Summary
It’s a disaster. There’s nothing for Eddie to do now but rip the Bandaid off.
“I’vebeenlookingatyourGooglehistory,” he says, all at once.
Buck blinks. “You’ve been what?”
“I’ve been—” Eddie breaks off with a huff, and then forces his eyes back up to Buck’s. “I went to the Google home page,” he starts again. “To search the thing about the coupling nut. But then when I clicked on the search bar, the recent history was not mine, because—”
A look of comprehension has begun to dawn on Buck’s face, suddenly.
“Because I was logged in on the iPad,” he says slowly.

Summary
This is what has been on Buck’s mind all summer, the thing that he has not allowed himself to want or to think about. Initially it had been not wanting to linger too hard on something that didn’t seem possible. Then– like he’d said to Chris– the fear of inadequacy that still pulses beneath his chest now, beneath Theo’s weight. For all of these reasons, even as recently as a couple of days ago, he’d pushed the thought aside. It was stored deep in the boxes at the back of his mind, in an inaccessible place.
Now, it’s hanging right in front of him and Theo is wrapped up against him, clinging to him, and–
“I’ll take him,” Buck says.

Summary
Buck’s lower lip begins to tremble, and Eddie internally braces himself for whatever awful news he’s surely about to receive, because Buck looks so sad and there’s got to be some terrible reason for it, and Eddie just hopes that whatever it is isn’t unfixable; that nobody’s dead or terminally ill or—
“The babies just want their moms.”
Eddie’s brain screeches to a halt at Buck’s words, his spiral put on hold because… huh?
“What?” he asks when Buck doesn’t elaborate.
“The cows, Eddie,” Buck says, his voice tinged with frustration, like Eddie should be able to make sense of what he’s saying without any further context. “The baby cows, they— they just wanna be with their moms, a-and the moms just want their babies, and we’re separating them. That’s like— That’s like if someone took Chris and Theo from us!”
Or: Buck decides his and Eddie's family should go vegan.
