Alastor did not want to open his eyes – did not want to see the look of revulsion Vox must surely be wearing. He lifted his chin, slightly, nostrils flaring as he scented the air. The familiar smell of his own rooms drifted to him, wood and leather and shoe polish. Absent of the once familiar scent of rot and swampy water, for his bayou had been gone for a long time – but his, nonetheless.
Something in his mind cracked, a whine creeping from his chest as he rolled onto his side to crawl up the bed. To collapse amongst his pillows and hibernate until his wounds had healed, closing himself off from the world for as long as it took for them to forget all of this had ever happened. He would rebuild his shattered psyche – again – and emerge all the more mysterious for his disappearance.
It had worked once before, after all.

It had always been simple, and it was all he could ever remember doing.

And he would try to puzzle out the skeleton he was attempting to build, one that he couldn't recall ordering and which had come with no indication as to what animal it was supposed to be. It certainly made things difficult, but he was a determined sort of man.
