Knuckles’ hands tightened around his spear, shaking with emotion. The young boy numbly walked through the battleground, his white shoes staining red. His legs felt weak, but he forced himself to keep moving until he came across the one he was looking for: the only other being alive on the battle field, a lone owl lying prone against a tree. She seemed to be struggling to catch her breath, holding her side where an arrow was protruding out of it.

Knuckles let out a sigh. Boy, was he in for it now. He rolled his eyes, turning towards Rouge to humor her and—
His heart caught in his throat, the world around him seemed to fall silent as he zeroed in on Rouge.
She looked stunning. Her hair was lying limp, along with her ears, dragged down by the weight of the water. Her fur sticking up at odd angles, and her usually slicked back bangs were falling messily in front of her face. Her makeup had been nearly all washed off at that point, leaving her face strangely barren of color. Her eyelids lack their signature blue and her lips were pale in comparison to their usual bright pink gloss. Her under eyes were darker than usual, and some remnants of bleeding mascara still clung to her lashes- and she was perfect.

Rouge fell oddly quiet beside him, and Knuckles was just about to turn to see what was wrong with her when she finally responded-
“Do you wanna find out?” She asked, her voice changing intonation.
Knuckles’ brow furrowed more, but this time out of confusion. What kind of idiotic question was that.
“Yes, of course. That’s why I asked!?”
OR Rouge’s lip gloss is scented and Knuckles is bad at understanding innuendos.
