Maya “Rook” De Riva is many things - bright, cunning, charming, free-spirited and strong-willed. But one thing she is not is a leader, until one day she found herself to be one. She trusted Varric`s judgment, she would follow that man to the end of the world and beyond, but she is completely new to the role. She is a total wild card, but somehow, her companions look to her for guidance, and for the first time in her life she has an out of the life she led before. While assembling The Veilguard and fighting blighted gods she has to come to terms with her past and present as an Antivan Crow and her anger towards the world while saving it from evil, and help her newfound friends along the way. In the meantime, in the midst of darkness and despair she finds herself falling in love with a smart, talented and handsome necromancer - she has never felt more out of bounds.

Summary
Ilya never saw herself as a leader, but when Varric recruited her, she did not hesitate to step up to the role, if only for the desire to save lives of the innocence. She was ready for her next adventure after gallivanting with the lords of fortune for the past few years, and this grand one mattered more than she realized at the time. She wasn`t sure if she was cut out for the role - a tad too quiet, too shy. But she was going to do her best. She had, however, not expected to fall in love with one of her companions. Emmrich was everything she was not - confident, well-educated and well-mannered, and incredibly kind. He was an easy man to fall in love with, and as luck would have it, he found her rather enchanting too.
These are the moments in between their grand adventures, the little slivers that turn meaningful as they fall in love while the world rages on around them.

Summary
Rook has had a tough week with troubling decisions, and while the battles were a welcome distraction, they lead to a troublesome injury. She has no time for such inconveniences, as she is terrified of failing as a leader and wishes to be strong for her companions. Emmrich sees her discomfort, and offers to help treat the wound. He has admired her for weeks, but she is shy and they do not get many moments alone, so this is perhaps as good a time as any to share what he feels about her, perhaps even for a first kiss.
No spoilers for the game. Just random fluff written at 4 am, really.

"No!" The word escaped Lucanis before he could keep it in. "Leave her be, Spite. Let her sleep."
The demon was wrong. Had to be wrong. Letting himself believe that Rook wanted him was too dangerous for both of them. Spite was his only possible future, and he couldn't afford to hope for anything more...
