Reality and fact both work on the basis of the provable, the concrete, the touchable. Stories and speculation are nebulous, driven by imagination and what-ifs, the emotions.
Reality is not supposed to be a story, and it's most certainly not supposed to place someone in the position of being reborn from one to the other. It's not supposed to force someone to have to figure out in life or death situations how to tell speculation from fact.
It's not supposed to do many things, but clearly, the universe is uninterested in supposed to.

Gojo Satoru’s plan to reform jujutsu society via the younger generation was on the move. Zen’in Maki, Kinji Hakari, and Fushiguro Megumi were all promising students and got stronger every day. If he was patient, he’d have someone new to call an equal. Gojo just had to wait.
Or maybe not.
He’d shouldn’t have been surprised; this was all part of the plan after all. He just didn’t expect them to take the form of a trans-dimensional, all-powerful, psychic six-year-old with a bowl cut. Gojo wasn’t sure how he felt about this, especially since the kid would need careful supervision to prevent any property damage or bodily harm via emotional psychic outbursts.
Ultimately, it didn’t matter how he felt: Kageyama Shigeo needed a teacher and Gojo Satoru needed powerful students. That's all there is to it.

I awoke to the dark. This was not necessarily a new phenomenon for me, but I’d sort of expected the journey getting here to have been less fucking weird.
As I idly catalogued my location as best I could in near-total darkness (standing upright, in a box, with a door that didn’t move at a light push), I tried to remember the fragments of the trippy dream sequence I’d just been subjected to. There had been… a mirror? A floating, glowing, flaming mirror with a pale-skinned hand reaching out of it? And I’d been compelled to take that hand (to never let it go), and it had drawn me gently into the mirror alongside the sound of hooves on pavement and the creaking of wood.
…had the mirror called me a beautiful flower of evil?
