Summary
"Yeah," Eddie sank down heavily, elbows digging into his knees as he started picking at the calluses on his hands while he continued. "How many shifts have I been at dispatch, by the way?"
"You don't know?"
"I lost count. Or, well…" He faltered, eyes flicking around the room as if searching for a misplaced thought. "I didn't realize I was supposed to be counting."
A line appeared between Buck's brows. "You feeling alright? I thought your third week started today. "
"Right. Third week." Eddie nodded mechanically, the motion too sharp. "Sure. That makes sense." His laugh came out thin, humorless. "Have you ever had a desk job?"
Buck shook his head, settling in the armchair across from him. "That's just about the only kind of job I haven't had— unless you count the Fire Marshal gig. But I was still out and about for that."
"Right. Out and about." Eddie's gaze was fixed on some distant point, his voice dropping to a near-whisper. "Did you ever think that… it might be really easy to miss that you were in a time loop at a desk job?"
Or, 3 times Eddie tells Buck he’s in a time loop and one time he doesn’t have to.

Summary
He knows the conversation he came here to have, carefully timed on the one day Chris's school was doing a sleep in in the gymnasium complete with comfy cots, apparently. Private school money — they weren't about to let the disabled kids feel left out. It was all planned so it would be just be him and Eddie — to see him open up or fall apart and it would be okay because Eddie had already seen him cry in a diner. What was one more time?
That doesn't mean Buck isn't nervous as hell.
Or, Buck came to Eddie's house with a six-pack of beer and a secret he couldn't keep — not because he wanted to tell it, but because Eddie already knew.

Summary
"I won't go through it alone — trust me I'm terrible at being alone."
Bobby gave him a shallow nod, "I know you'll try. I believe you." Bobby's voice didn't shake—it never did—but his hands did. Just once. He pressed them flat against the table to stop it, and Buck saw.
And Buck realized, Bobby knew — he might be terrible at it but it was so easy to fall into being lonely and silent and suffering.
Or, Buck realizes at a diner with Eddie that he broke a years-old promise to Bobby not to suffer alone — and Eddie's response reframes what keeping a promise actually means.Series

Summary
Buck had believed his time under the ladder truck would always be his undisputed rock bottom — but at least it gave him a high pain threshold — the crush injury felt indescribable and everyone had been there to witness it. It had to be the worst pain he would ever be in because it was the most noticeable pain he'd ever — ever — be in. He'd thought that event, as the crux of his issues, meant it couldn't really get worse.
It was harder to manage after Bobby died. The grief pushed him past a threshold he didn't even know existed.
Everything was harder.
Living.

Summary
Even if Ravi didn't have to hear about it from Buck (and he absolutely did), he could tell that Eddie had feelings about the partner swap too. Less vocal, surely, but he can feel the weight of eyes following them on calls. Once, he could have sworn he saw Eddie outright glare at him as he double checked Buck's harness before a rappel.
These men were outrageously weird about the fact that the word "partner" no longer belonged exclusively to the other anymore and they were going to drive Ravi to drink or to paramedics training so he wouldn't have to exist in the middle of their frankly disturbing dynamic.
Or how Ravi decides to go for paramedic training.

Summary
Without waiting for a reaction or reply, the man bore down on the gas and peeled down the highway, leaving Buck stranded in the middle of nowhere somewhere along Interstate 10.
And as Buck watched the red brake lights of his Jeep disappear into the distance, clutching his prescription of blood thinners tightly to his chest... there was really only one thing left to do. Tilting his head back until he was staring at the stars, he took a deep breath and screamed into the night:
“Fuck!”
And much like every other one of his recent cries for help, it had gone unanswered.
---
Buck gets carjacked, held at gunpoint, and stranded in Arizona the day before his first shift post-lawsuit. And that's only the beginning of his troubles.

It’s the smell of it. Chemical. Bitter and sharp as a raw edge on metal. Just a hint of it as she passes him at breakfast — but enough to stop her dead, mid-step.
There is Wolfsbane in his tea.

Summary
Sixty-six years from the Tenth Hunger Games to the fall of the Capitol, seen through the eyes of a ghost woman haunting the narrative.
The story of a girl with a few secrets and a weakness for snakes, who only wanted her songs to be adored by the whole world, but had the misfortune to get stuck on the wrong side of the fence. Fortunately, she was a superb improviser.
