    "What is it, Peter?"

    "Do you have DID?"

    Bruce freezes. He wonders if he heard that right as his heart beat starts to fasten. "...What?" He asks.

    "You know, dissociative identity disorder." Peter continues. "Do you have it? I've looked it up, and man I'm sorry I probably shouldn't have. I mean it's not like I found something but saying to your face that I've looked you up for something private feels incredibly wrong now. I'm sorry. I've just been wondering for a long time now and I just have to ask."

    "Are you asking me if the other guy is an alter?"

    In hindsight, Maria blames the blood loss. Or the frustration at being rendered fundamentally useless. Or just her stupid brain, which thought it would be a good idea to reply, "Why? Got tired of taking them?"

    It startles the other woman, which manifests as a tiny twitch of a finger that Maria wouldn't have noticed if those hands weren't pressing into her.

    The answer that follows catches Maria equally off-guard.

    "Yes," says the Widow.
