Summary
When Anakin perishes on the Death Star, he awakes to a new task. His reliance on the Dark Side has poisoned his Force Presence, and he is not able to release it to heal. It festers, and blinds him to the Force. In Middle Earth, an Ambassador from the East has arrived to Erebor to open the East to their wealth. He finds Anakin and sees him as the answer to a prophecy. He is pulled into the politics of a mountain doomed to fall, and then joins the diaspora of Durin's Folk, vowing to aid them in their attempt to restore their home, once his power is returned to him. Over a century later, his oath is called upon, and he joins a meeting of the Dwarves called by Thorin Oakenshield.

The thing Gandalf neglected to mention when he assured Thorin Oakenshield and Company that Bilbo Baggins of Bag End would be the perfect thief for their mission was this:
A Hobbit wouldn't be able to tell a diamond from a pearl, or from an Arkenstone - no matter how hard they try.
This leads to some confusion, on Bilbos part. And some frustration, again on Bilbos part.
(What sort of a description was 'heart of the mountain', anyway? A useless one, that's what.)

Summary

He's returned to the tumultuous week before The Company set out to recruit their Burglar from his cosy hobbit hole. The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.

(Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused, and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.
