Neither expected to become entangled in the mystery of disappearing New New Yorkers five billion years into the future, a case that required Madeleine and Javert to set aside their differences and learn to trust each other.
Set in 1820, Madeleine's first year as Mayor. Javert had newly arrived as Montreuil-sur-Mer's inspector. Also set post-The Name of the Doctor, an adventure after the Doctor and Clara's first visit to Tranzalore.

It is at the core a character study of two what-if scenarios: What if Javert raises Cosette? And: What if Jean Valjean remains in prison? The story spans Jean Valjean's life, so yes, it follows Valjean until his end.

Summary
Andělé i čerti většinou tuší, jakým směrem se bude nadále ubírat historie. Pokud by to nebylo nadpřirozeným nadáním, pak minimálně pozorovali svět dost dlouho na to, aby si začali všímat vzorů v lidském chování.
Tentokrát Uriáš ani nemusel tolik hádat - dostal totiž pokyn, aby dohlédl na hladký průběh celé věci, a to znamenalo, že se to podle jeho nadřízených stát musí.
Dostal za úkol ohlídat upálení mistra Jana Husa.
