Anita Lesnicki was just one more Devil's Kettle tragedy added to the pile. A teenage girl watches her classmates burn, and a cannibal murders a few more; of course, she has a psychotic break. Especially when she finds her boyfriend’s corpse on the night of the big dance.
Eventually, Needy stopped fighting. Maybe she had unraveled after the fire.

James’ equally surprised and horrified expression as he stares at her face, splattered with foreign blood— his slowly spreading manic grin and choked laugh upon realizing that she’s uninjured. The subsequent mad dash from the manor. If the last vestiges of Miranda’s old life were embers, they’d been used up after that.
Miranda survives the Charles Town confrontation with her belief in the possibility of reconciliation with Civilization shattered. The Walrus crew are still becalmed. The Maroons still agree to an alliance. The future impact of her presence and new outlook, however, remains to be seen.
